Firefox 0.8 Goodies

Friday, February 13th, 2004

Continuing on my goodies theme, here’s some stuff you should check out if you’re using the latest and greatest browser, Firefox 0.8 (notice the new button to the right.) If you’re not using it, and you’re using Internet Explorer or AOL’s browser, by all means get Firefox. Don’t you know that IE/AOL is bad for you?

First off, if you’re a web designer, you should definitely grab the Web Developer extension, which makes your job much easier working on websites. It adds a menu and a toolbar to the browser with various web developer tools — check the link for the full list of features it gives you. After using it, you’ll wonder how you lived without it. It is an invaluable tool, and if you find it to be so too, see if you can donate to the guy who made it to show your appreciation.

Of course, if you haven’t yet, grab the EditCSS extension too, which lets you modify the CSS of any site and see the changes in real-time. Another invaluable tool that helps me design websites.

Second of all, check out the CuteMenus extension, which adds icons for the context menu. Not very useful, by any means, but certainly gives Firefox a new type of feel. You can also check out this tweak that lets you give Firefox’s menus an Outlook XP feel. I’m not too fond of the look, but your preferences may differ.

Birthday Goodies

Friday, February 13th, 2004

I had a pretty good birthday yesterday. I got a nice big sub from a local sub shop, and grabbed American Wedding on DVD. My mom came by with her husband, and they gave me a set of really nice knives, which are quite sharp and will replace my current knives which are dull and old. American Wedding was really hilarious, so I enjoyed that.

I went shopping today, as I figure I should spoil myself with some things I’ve been wanting for a while now. I got a new big wooden cutting board to replace the postage stamp-sized plastic cutting board I had. I also got a 9-cup 450watt 4-speed food processor, and a 3-cup 150watt 2-speed food chopper. Also grabbed me some tupperware storage containers, because I’m sick of rummaging in the cabinets looking for the proper sized container and matching lid for any leftovers that need to be stored. You can see a picture of all the goodies right here.

What’s amazing about these purchases is that finally, after 4 years of always buying hardware for my computer everytime I splurged on myself, I got something that benefits not just me, but anyone else who eats my meals. I guess you could say I’m growing into an adult, finally — or something. I wondered for so long when I was going to develop a new interest so I would buy more than just hardware for my computer. Today marks the transition of the new me. I like it so far.

Unreal Tournament 2004 Released

Wednesday, February 11th, 2004

As promised in the chat 3DGPU held with Epic Games, the Unreal Tournament 2004 demo is now available for download. Most download sites are bogged down, so the best route to download is via bittorrent, which you can grab here. Otherwise you can try your luck at Shacknews or 3DGamers. Unreal Tournament 2004, to me, is like a futuristic version of Battlefield 1942, and it’s pretty fun, based on what I played at CPL in Dallas. The graphics are certainly gorgeous.

YOU’RE MY BOY, BLUE!

Wednesday, February 11th, 2004

Reports indicate that Matthew Burris, otherwise known as asshole by his ex-girlfriends, henceforth known as Mr. Burris, just turned 25 years old today. Mr. Burris, famous for running a bunch of websites, playing video games, and generally being an isolated geek amongst sheep and rednecks, was last seen entering a restaurant with a buxom blonde bombshell. When approached, we learned that the woman was hired and sent to Mr. Burris by Hugh Grant. When approached, Mr. Burris told us to speak with his lawyer. After 2 calls, his lawyer finally returned our message. He had this prepared statement to say:

“All rumors of Mr. Burris turning 25 is false. I repeat, they are false. This was started by a deranged fan, trying to get Mr. Burris to expose his breast to his fans. Mr. Burris feels the rumors spread in tabloids such as The Sun, and The National Enquirer, alongside the alien baby born from a cow, are misleading, as well as defamatory. So please, let’s keep this in perspective and respect Mr. Burris wishes. Thank you for your time.”

Mozilla Firefox 0.8 Released

Monday, February 9th, 2004

Yes, you read right, it’s now called Firefox. The next release is rumored to be called Firedolphin. Okay, I’m kidding, but these name changes are getting a little out of hand. Now I’m going to have change a couple links on Good Blimey pointing towards Firefox. You can read more information about Firefox 0.8, read the Slashdot story on the release, read the namechange FAQ, and download the new release from the official site, or from these mirrors:

Update: Since I can’t find the changelog, and people were curious, here’s what was changed.

Love? Dude, Get A 40GB iPod

From Pug’s Place, is a hilarious geekism from a Slashdotter taken from the latest Ask Slashdot column:

Being a lonely geek myself, I would say that I would be happy just getting to spend my day with a girl I love. The only thing that I would ever want would be her company for that day. There is no material object on the planet that would make me as happy as just getting to spend time someone I love. Just to hold her in my arms, and enjoy her company. Maybe sitting out in a park bench in the middle of the night looking out over a lake at the cityscape.”
