The freeiPods.com Pyramid Scheme and You! is a page set up to explain how you can get a free iPod, and how it works. Apple’s iPods are a hot item right now, so why not use it to make money, which is exactly what Gratis is doing, and it’s clever. There’s already been numerous reports and proof around the net from people actually getting their iPods and iPod mini’s. Check it out if you want an iPod (why wouldn’t you?)

Sexes Soundoff - Where Male & Female Duke It Out is where the men and women tell it all holding nothing back. Although there are things I don’t agree with on the men point of view, it’s certainly spot-on in most subjects. Definitely an amusing read, if you aren’t too serious and brooding.

This is so freaky, because the other day while watching Alton Brown in Good Eats, which happens to be my favorite show on the Food Network, I was laughing at a comment he made and thinking how cool it’d be if he had a blog that he posted in.
Voila! He has one: Alton Brown.com: Rants & Raves! Joy! Not surprisingly, his sharp wit and humor is revealed on the blog too, as this choice quote will tell you:
“The fact that “Dr.” Phil has the number 1 cookbook on Amazon.com makes me want to end it all.”
Bookmarked for daily reading. :)

I decided to return to 3DGPU, and not only return as an editor, but redesign the site from the ground up using just Notepad. Here are the technical details of the new redesign:
- Now complies to XHTML 1.0 Strict as much as possible (a few old articles may break validation.)
- Extensive CSS styling, complete with IE hacks in the “ihateiehacks.css” file.
- Tableless layout, where tables are only used for tabular data (mostly in articles for comparison purposes)
- The site uses WordPress for the backend to post news and articles
- Accessibilty is something I’ll be focusing on in the near future
- Fast load times, due to CSS being cached, and minimal use of graphics
- Works in all modern browsers properly
- Site benefits from web standard compliant browsers, which means all modern ones except Internet Explorer
That’s all I can think of for now, but I’m extremely proud of how the redesign of 3DGPU turned out.

I installed the new Yahoo Messenger 6.0 instant messaging client, and even though I chose custom installation, and removed the optional components to prevent Yahoo from taking over my computer, it still hijacked my computer. How, you ask? I’m glad you asked; here are a list of things Yahoo Messenger 6.0 has done to my computer without my permission:
- Put “Email with Yahoo!” in the context menu (right click an icon to see it)
- Put links to Yahoo and Yahoo Mail in my Internet Explorer Favorites
- Put Launch.com in my Start Menu
- Put links in the My Photos, My Music, and My Videos folders in both my user account and shared files
- Installed external files, Yahoo Address Autocomplete, Yahoo Messenger Toolbar, and Yahoo Mail, all which I had to remove via Add/Remove Programs
Now if I were to contact a Yahoo representative and ask him why their program hijacks my computer without my consent, he would likely respond, “Yahoo Messenger 6.0 is a revolutionary product, and it is free. To keep it free, we have to bombard you with marketting. I’m sure you understand.”
No siree, I don’t understand, and I won’t understand. The reason? Trillian - offers a free IM client that does better than Yahoo Messenger, AIM, MSN Messenger, and ICQ all combined. No ads, no bloat, and supports everything all the other IM clients does, without hijacking my computer. Yahoo does this to outmanuever AOL and Microsoft. Don’t get caught up in their corporate tug of war and allow your computer to get hijacked.
The only reason why I installed Yahoo Messenger 6.0 was to use it’s webcam function, but since Trillian’s works just as well, I’ll just uninstall Yahoo Messenger 6.0, and I suggest you do the same and grab Trillian instead. You don’t have to thank me.

A disturbing trend I’ve been seeing for a long while now is just getting out of hand. It has to do with a news site copying and pasting the exact words of the article into their post, and not using the semantically correct blockquote tag to make it look like another source cited it. In other words, they copy/paste the exact text to make it look like they said it on their own news site, instead of the source they’re citing.
For examples of this, visit Warp2Search or Neowin.net. Here’s one from Neowin:
“Man’s personal data still on “new” hard drive
Posted by Daniel Fleshbourne on 17 Jul 2004 - 21:12 | 11 comments Forums
YOU’RE PROBABLY wondering why we haven’t called up the chap whose personal data was on a drive we bought from PC World a few weeks back at full price. The answer is this is a can of beans and we’ve only got halfway round the top of said can. It is a jigsaw puzzle, so bear with us because we’ve one of those funny bits which just has blue sky and, er, jigs.
The story so far. We bought, yes bought, a drive from PC World in Tottenham Court Road, found all sorts of data on it, rang the DSG group, then contacted Western Digital, the latter confirming the drive was sold to London distributor CMS. WD is a commendable company - see the tracking slip below.”
Those two paragraphs above are the exact words of an article on The Inquirer. However the author on Neowin present it in such a way that the Inquirer didn’t write it, but Neowin did. Not only are we not getting any thoughts on the matter from Neowin, but it makes the site seem like a glorified RSS feed. While not all news sites do this, it seems to me that some sites are taking the lazy route, and just copy and pasting everything into a news update and leaving it at that.
Am I the only one that is annoyed by this trend?
