I wrote an article on Code|Reality talking about the impending arrival of the new consoles; the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Nintendo Revolution. With these new consoles coming out, PC gaming will suffer as game developers hop on the bandwagon for profit, while the games we receive suffer, as a result.
Read about it all here.

This year’s E3 marks their 10th anniversary, which is remarkable considering a lot of conventions have been dying out lately. A couple of years ago, I was invited by NVIDIA to go to E3. They flew me out there, paid for the hotel room, and invited me to a company party that featured Smashmouth which was real neat. If you’re not familiar with E3, it’s only the largest show on Earth, featuring everyone in the gaming industry marketing their products.
However, that’s largely what it’s about; marketing. There were a few people I met that were passionate about gaming, but they were hard to find at E3. It’s all loud music, flashing lights, and gleaming teeth. It’s thousands of Press Relations and marketing people hand-in-hand, with dollar signs ka-chinging in their eyes.
Don’t get me wrong though, it was neat being able to see games before anyone else, and sometimes even get to play them. It’s nice to talk to the few people that were into gaming, and get their thoughts on games other than their own. Between the long walks, loud noise, and the stress of trying to cover as much as you can, I’d say it’s better to stay home, download all the videos released to the web, and let someone else do all the work.
I’ll just play the games, thank you very much.

My new mousepad came in, and it’s smooooooth. It is called the Icemat, and it’s made of glass. Featuring a 12 inch wide by 10 inch long real estate, and rubber feet to secure it in place, it’s the coolest (literally) and slickest mousepad I’ve used yet, and I’ve tried a ton over the years.
I got it because my old pad wasn’t big enough for my widescreen monitor, and I wasn’t going to jack up the sensitivity. I also wanted something more durable and should hopefully last for a very long time. Glass doesn’t warp, so it should be well worth the $45 purchase price.

Erik over at kartooner.com passed me some sort of useless musical baton. I tried to use it to pry a box open, but no luck. Anyways, here’s the music goodness:
Total volume of music files on my computer:
According to iTunes, 7958 songs, 22.9 days worth of listening, 38.61 GB.
The last CD I bought was:
The Arcade Fire - Funeral. I wanted to support an awesome band, an awesome label, and just plain fantastic music you can’t ever grow tired of.
Five songs I listen to a lot, or that mean a lot to me:
- U2 - With or Without You
- Jackson Browne - You Love The Thunder
- Bob Marley - Little Birds
- The Smashing Pumpkins - By Starlight
- Led Zeppelin - Over the Hills and Far Away

This week’s song of the week features John Lydon, whom you may know better as Johnny Rotten, the who-gives-a-flying-bleep frontman for the Sex Pistols. In this rocking tune, he teams up with Afrika Bambaataa to sing about the Apocalypse, and man does it rock.
The amazing thing here isn’t that Mr. Rotten himself is still kicking it, but that Afrika Bambaataa is an unsung hero in the music world. Known as Kevin Donovan, he has bridged and revolutionized music, especially hip hop, by bringing his influences to the music world, and it is fitting that it is paired with a primal rock song like World Destruction.
Visit the Tunes page to hear World Destruction.

Normally I’m not one for spring cleaning when that season comes around, but for some reason I got bit by that bug this year. I’ve been a busy beaver the past week:
- Threw away old shirts and those that don’t fit anymore. Lots are from high school.
- Threw out all the socks that holes in them, which were more than I cared for. I currently have only 5 socks that are wearable now.
- Cleaned out drawers; papers, thingamajings, gadgets, gizmos, nails, paper clips, notes, and lots of little thingies for computer cases.
- Threw out 3 old busted hard drives, 2 CD-ROM drives, an old AMD K6-2 processor, 12MB of super-duper old memory, sound cards, modems, and tons of others things I had no idea what they were. I forgot how much hardware junk I’ve collected over the years; it’s frightening.
- Did 10 loads of laundry, which made me realize I have a lot of clothes.
- Cleaned out my closet of books to be donated to the local library.
- 7 years of back catalog PC Gamers and Electronic Gaming Monthly makes an amazing bonfire. Weapons were firing, demons were gnashing their teeth, buxom damsels in distress were wailing at me, and some punk named Mario threw a hardened mushroom at my head.
Ahhh, nothing like the smell of cleanness. At least for a few weeks before everything accumulates again.
