Blingo - Search and Win Prizes

You may notice the new Blingo graphic up at the top of the page. Blingo is a new search engine where you can win prizes while searching. Not to worry if you like Google, as it uses the Google search engine, as well. There’s also toolbars you can add to Internet Explorer and Firefox to make searching easy.

There is no catch, you simply win prizes by doing searches. And if you win a prize, I win the same prize too if you sign up under me. It’s really quite brilliant, even Erik over at kartooner.com/ won a prize, movie tickets for a movie of his choice.

Here are the prizes for this month being given away:

  • Sony PlayStation Portable (or $300 cash)
  • Apple iPod Mini (or $200 cash)
  • One Year of Free Movies from Blockbuster.com (or $180 cash)
  • Apple iPod Shuffle (or $100 cash)
  • Amazon Gift Certificate (or $25 cash)
  • Blingo Movie Ticket Certificate good for one adult admission to theatres throughout the US

The Hurricanes of 2004

With that passing of Hurricane Dennis, which surprisingly didn’t make a beeline for Florida, it made me think about the storms that harassed us last year.

Last year was an interesting, yet at the same time, frustrating year. It was the Year of Hurricanes for Florida and much of the Southeastern U.S.

It was the year that made me realize that I should take hurricanes more seriously, and not take them too lightly. So I thought I’d impart some of my experiences with the storms that bombarded us last year.

Tunes Back Up, 380 New Mashups Added

Update: There are now 2,748 songs. As a thank you reward for a donation to help with bandwidth from sharing the whole collection, you get access to all of the songs, which totals 18GB. See the Tunes page for more details.

With a total of over 700 mashups now available for your listening pleasure on the Tunes page.

400 more were added with Volume 3, making the total of over 1000 mashups.

There are a few things to note, however. I’ve disabled the ability to download the songs, due to bandwidth being consumed so fast, that it went over my limit last month, incurring me an $80 bill. With that in mind, I’m asking for donations to help keep the tunes up longer. The more donations received, the longer the tunes can stay up for everyone to enjoy. Donations can only be used for the hosting bill, and not for anything else.

Once again, thanks to everyone that put together these mashups, and those who given positive feedback to me. Hopefully I can keep these tunes up much longer than last time.

Raising A Child

To make a long story short, a 12-year old girl has nowhere to go, and I’ve volunteered to help care for her while her father gets back on his feet. Being 26 myself, with no kids, I have no experience in the area of raising a child, but I have every intention to make sure she gets the proper care, a stable and safe home life, and have fun. I’ll be responsible for her education, and I would love to teach her how to cook, which I hear she’s interested in.

I’m not expecting it to be an easy undertaking, but I do expect to do a good job. I just hope I don’t have to be chasing off any boys. I’m at the age where I can actually catch them when they go running off. :)

Tunes Temporarily Taken Down

The tunes on the Tunes page has been taken down due to the bandwidth limit being exceeded (50 cents for every GB over the limit, so now I owe $75, oy.) I didn’t anticipate this kind of attention for the tunes, but they will be back up around July 9th when the month cycle restarts. I’ll also have 380 new songs available to listen to, too.

This time around I won’t allow the ability to download the tunes, which I hope will keep me within the bandwidth limit, and from having to pay out of my own pockets. Yesterday alone transferred over 100GB, which is amazing.
