Halloween is just around the corner, and soon the ghouls, zombies, and lesbian witches will haunt the night:
Okay, so maybe there are no lesbian witches, but at least there are witches. My mom is one. She made this “soup” one time, it was so horrible, I think it had newt brains and frog eyes in it.
Anyways, to celebrate Halloween, here’s a music video put together by the North American Halloween Prevention Initiative, a group of superstars that got together to put out the song, “Do They Know It’s Hallowe’en?”, which can be purchased online The song is for a charity benefit, all proceeds will go to the United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF), so I highly recommend you check it out.
Here’s an awesome 23 minute long mashup megamix from Cheekyboy that’ll put you in the Halloween spirit. It belongs to a collection of mashups called Bride of Monster Mashup, where you can download a whole CD’s worth of great mashups.
I’ve come to the conclusion after watching this episode, that in all my years watching television, this was the best I’ve ever experienced and enjoyed. Battlestar Galactica has been my favorite television show since I first watched the pilot episode in 2003, and season 3 this year has proven the show gets better and better.
I couldn’t help but revel in a true classic. I got goosebumps so many times during the show. I got elated, I teared up, and some moments were uncomfortable and painful as I envisioned myself in the shoes of some of the characters’ toughest challenge yet. This one had just about every emotion you could go through in a television show, and then some.
Already online, people are marveling at the “Adama maneuver”, a fictional maneuver of a large battleship that makes sense and truly exemplified why this science fiction show is not too far-fetched from a realistic future. I was just absolutely stunned when I saw it, it was just brilliant in execution.
All of this couldn’t be pulled off if the actors and actresses weren’t talented. But they are, immensely so. The cast is just perfect for this show, all of them are believable and unforgettable.
I’m just extremely grateful that this show was created, and that it is in its 3rd season (and I hope many more if it remains at this caliber.)
Update: There are now 2,748 songs. As a thank you reward for a donation to help with bandwidth from sharing the whole collection, you get access to all of the songs, which totals 18GB. See the Tunes page for more details.
I’ve updated the Tunes page with a slew of mashups to listen to, and download. It spans 7 volumes, and totals 2,747 tunes to listen to. I’ve also updated the player with a whole new look, to make it easier to use and view each song. Finally, there’s a handy FAQ below the player addressing the most common questions I’ve received since putting these tunes up. Enjoy!
Some of my favorite highlights of this new update of Firefox 2.0:
Live Titles (for bookmarks)
Inline spell-checking
Session Restore
Easier to add and maintain extensions/addons.
Strict anti-phishing technology for better security
Better handling of RSS feeds
And really a bunch more that I can’t think of off the top of my head. I already have family and friends enjoying this browser, and having less problems with viruses, spyware, and other annoying problems. This means less frustrating phone calls for me to answer.
As I’m reading the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly talking about Gears of War, I saw the words “hardcore gamers” in a sentence. I scoffed at the notion of console gamers as hardcore gamers. There’s nothing hardcore about console games and the gamers that play them, with maybe a very slight exception to fighting games, but I’ll get to that.
You see, there’s a reason there’s a very, very forgiving damage model in most action-packed console games. It’s the limited control scheme that a gamepad gives you. The gamepad are great for platformers like Super Mario 64 and Ratchet & Clank.
Here’s a case in point: My sister’s boyfriend has been playing Call of Duty 2 for months on his Xbox 360 and has beaten it three times. I watched as he took direct hits of 2 grenades and an ungodly amount of bullets, yet he still trekked on, oblivious to all the damage done to his on-screen persona. I was amazed, becaused Call of Duty 2 on my computer was a lot less forgiving (not to mention I play on the hardest difficulty.)
This is the time of the year when game publishers start releasing their games, mostly to take advantage of the upcoming holiday seasons. Games that come out in late October/early November that turn out to be really good gets added on gift lists. For us gamers, this can be both a blessing and a curse.
Sometimes a game will be far from finished, but end up being pushed out the door upon unsuspecting customers because investors and publishers want to get the money, meanwhile the gamers who got these rushed, unfinished games are stuck with a lemon (most stores have no return policy for open PC games.)
Other times the game can turn out to be truly excellent, as was the case with Half-Life 2 when it was released in November 2004. It sold at a brisk pace during that holiday season. This season the games to look forward to are Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (which I preordered yesterday, and posted about here), Neverwinter Nights 2, Guild Wars: Nightfall, World of Warcraft: Burning Crusades expansion, and a bunch more.
On top of that, there’s Nintendo’s Wii and Sony’s Playstation 3 coming out, along with a handful of console games like Gears of War and Final Fantasy XII coming out, making this a very bad month on the wallet.
