Uniqlock - Music Dance Video Clock

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

So which is it?  A music video?  A dance video?  A clock?  It’s all of the above, and it’s mostly a way to sell polo shirts.  Absolutely brilliant, hypnotic, and the music is great too.  See for yourself:

Elitist Music Snob

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

Sometimes I wonder if, because of my music listening habits, I have become an elitist music snob. I’m always sneering at any artists on MTV, or the current popular Billboard chart toppers. However, according to this site, I am ~30% mainstream. What it does is take my listening habits from Last.fm (which records every single song I’ve played since August 2005, and takes into account how many others also listen to the artist in my Top 50 list. Then it computes everything together and finds my mainstream percentage.

I like to think that I have a healthy balance between good mainstream and indie music.

Also, I know it is surprising to see Neko Case way up there, but I went through a spell there where I listened to nothing but her for months. It’s about the only “country” I’ll really get into these days.

AOL TV Listings

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006

Since Yahoo’s TV listing service has gone down the (boob?) tubes (see the irate members dissing Yahoo), I’ve been looking around for alternatives.  The best I could come up with was Zap2It’s service, but the design leaves much to be desired.  Ironically AOL’s service has won me over, since it is powered by Zap2It, and it looks better, plus has a few features (favorites and recommendations) that are handy.

However AOL really cluttered up the page badly, so I used the Firefox extension, Stylish, to clean the page up considerably, and now I have a much better tv listing service than what I had before Yahoo totally trashed their service.  If you have Stylish installed, you can grab it at userstyles.org.  Here’s the before and after screenshots.

A Review on ReviewMe

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

Sorry if the title is a little confusing; this is a review of a new advertising service available online called ReviewMe.  As a note, I am being paid to write up this review, but I can assure you, in my years of reviewing products, services, and software, I’m always up-front and comprehensive with my assessments.

There’s been a number of new applications and services recently that are looking to extend the usefulness and fun of iTunes. I’m always looking for new ways to have a better iTunes experience. With that in mind, I thought I’d provide my thoughts on these new iTunes extensions. After the jump, you’ll find my thoughts on Qloud, The Filter, and Qloud.

Huge List of Upload Services

Saturday, September 2nd, 2006

Here’s a huge list of upload services where you can upload and share large files. With email, you’re limited to 10MB files, while most homemade upload services is restricted by PHP’s own upload filesize limit. These upload services are ideal for sharing large videos, compressed archives, and whatever else you need them for.

Blog Stats for Good Blimey

Sunday, August 6th, 2006

Something I noticed when puttering about in the admin interface for this blog:

Blog Stats

Good Blimey was started in July 2003 (the archives goes back to October 2003 because I lost data when I changed from MovableType, to pMachine, and finally to Wordpress which I’m still using now. I’ve nearly posted 500 entries, yet people have commented quadruple as much. That’s a lot of feedback, which I really appreciate getting. And the spammers are really desperate to tell me about Viagra, mortgage deals, and how to enlarge my penis (much to the shock and horror of women who’ve been with me.)
