The Flaming Lips – Bohemian Rhapsody

It’s difficult to touch a classic, especially one by Queen, and actually do a good job covering the song. One such song is by The Flaming Lips (one of my favorite bands of all time) doing a cover of Bohemian Rhapsody. If there’s one band in the whole world who could do the song justice, The Flaming Lips are it, and I’m glad to see them do it. The video and more information on the cover can be read at Stereogum. Enjoy it below:

Semi-Obscure Music Sub-Genres

For a lot of people, music is the stuff you hear on the radio, or see on VH-1 (MTV doesn’t show much music these days.)  So to a lot of people, there are sub-genres of music out there that they know nothing about, or if they had, had no idea what it was.  As much as I am into music, I’m overwhelmed by all the little sub-genres out there.

In this post, I thought I’d cover a few and give an example song of that style.  Who knows, maybe you’ll broaden your taste in music.

Arcade Fire – Intervention

I was so enthralled with The Arcade Fire when the Funeral album in late 2004 came out, that I bought the physical album, which was something I hadn’t done in years.  I’d always buy my music online.  Now with their new album, Neon Bible, right around the corner (March-April 2007), I’m getting excited again.

A couple of days ago they released a teaser from the new album, called Intervention, which you can hear below.

Update: I remembered that I have a live recording of Intervention from The Arcade Fire when they played for the Santa Monica college radio station, KCRW. The difference from the retail and the live version is remarkable, but I absolutely love both. Here’s the song for your listening pleasure:

Radio 1 Mentions This Site

I’ve been getting a lot of emails from visitors to the site telling me that they heard about this site, thanks to a mention on Colin Murray’s “The Black Hole” show on the BBC’s Radio 1 radio station.  Colin’s show features internet music submitted by listeners, and according to him, this site’s Tunes page was the best submission for the show.

First off, thank you to everyone that has written in with kind words, it is always appreciated.  Secondly, I can’t describe how great to hear that my puny, little blog got mentioned on such a large radio station.  It made the effort of putting all the songs up, getting the player together, and answering a ton of questions well worth it.

After perusing Colin Murray’s page, I found where he mentioned this site on the air,  and you can hear a clip of it below:
